Where identical sentences are imposed on charges of markedly different gravity, the apparent incongruity may be explained by the less serious charge receiving an appropriate sentence while the more serious charge received a moderate sentence to achieve an appropriate total effective sentence consistent with the totality principle. In such circumstances, there is no occasion to interfere with the total effective sentence.
