A guilty plea does not of itself necessarily form the basis for a finding of remorse; where there is no direct evidence of remorse, the strength of the prosecution case may be taken into account in assessing the degree of remorse to be inferred from the plea. Drug dependence that leads to involvement in commercial-level cultivation (as distinct from street-level trafficking driven by immediate need) will have only limited mitigatory effect on moral culpability.
