A sentencing judge dealing with multiple counts of systematic fraud may adopt a broad-brush approach, categorising offences by type and amount, and need not give punctilious attention to distinguishing features between individual counts. Failure to expressly refer to totality or to give detailed reasons for the exercise of the CCE discretion will not vitiate a sentence where the sentence itself reflects proper regard for these matters and the reasons are plain from the circumstances.
