A sentence of nine months imprisonment with parole after three months is within range for possession of approximately 1.4 kilograms of cannabis for a commercial purpose by a mature first offender who entered an early guilty plea but unsuccessfully contested the commercial element at a contested sentencing hearing. A wholly suspended sentence of longer duration would also have been within range. Contesting an aggravating feature at a contested sentencing hearing and being disbelieved may properly reduce the weight given to a guilty plea and call into question the extent of the offender's remorse.
