Pre-2007 amendment sentences for dangerous driving causing death are of limited utility as comparable sentencing decisions given the increase in maximum penalty from 7 to 14 years and the introduction of the leaving-the-scene aggravating circumstance. A three-year head sentence for dangerous driving causing one death and multiple injuries, with the aggravating circumstance of leaving the scene, is within the proper exercise of the sentencing discretion where the driving involved serious (but not momentary) inattention. The aggravating circumstance of leaving the scene encompasses not only identification and testing concerns but also callous disregard for the welfare of victims, and a delayed return does not fully remedy the aggravation.
