The absence of aggravating features such as threats, grooming, physical injuries, or breach of trust in child sex offence cases does not constitute mitigation — it merely indicates the offending could have been worse. The number of complainants is relevant but not decisive in determining sentence length. Where no directly comparable cases exist, the court is not precluded from finding a total effective sentence is not unreasonable or plainly unjust.
