For large-scale wholesale methylamphetamine trafficking by a principal over an extended period, sentences in the range of 10-12 years before plea discount remain appropriate. Where non-declarable pre-sentence custody reduces a head sentence below 10 years, the parole eligibility date may be set beyond the statutory halfway mark to reflect the effective sentence that would otherwise have invoked the 80% requirement. The sentencing judge's reasoning process in disclosing how non-declarable pre-sentence custody was taken into account, including by reference to a notional higher sentence, does not constitute impermissible direct proportionality.
