Two deep stab wounds to the thigh inflicted with a substantial knife using moderate force are sufficient to support an inference of intention to cause really serious injury for murder, even though the wounds were not directed at the most vulnerable parts of the body and the resulting death (from severing the femoral artery) was unusual. A deliberate forensic decision not to object to evidence at trial, made for tactical advantage, will preclude a complaint on appeal that the evidence's admission caused a substantial miscarriage of justice.
