A sentence of 4 years' imprisonment for aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death (where the offender was driving a stolen vehicle while disqualified for life, at excessive speed, without braking, causing the death of a 5-year-old child) was manifestly inadequate and was increased to 6 years 6 months. The total effective sentence for the course of offending (one death, four grievous bodily harm, two bodily harm victims) was increased from 7 years 6 months to 10 years' imprisonment. Significant weight must be given to personal and general deterrence and protection of the public where the offender has an extensive history of stealing motor vehicles and wilfully disregarding a lifetime driving disqualification.
