A complainant's inability to recall at a special hearing the details of offending described in a VARE does not, without more, render the VARE evidence unreliable or the resulting convictions unsafe, provided the complainant did not recant, contradict, or embellish the earlier account. The absence of corroborating evidence in historical sexual offence cases is not a basis on which to conclude that a verdict is unreasonable. Alleged improbabilities that are independent of each other, rather than compounding, carry less weight in a cumulative assessment under the unreasonable verdict ground.
