Even where offending is characterised as particularly serious (mid to high range aggravated burglary involving sophisticated planning, multiple offenders, weapons and occupied premises), a young offender's youth, immaturity, rehabilitation prospects and the principle of parsimony may require detention in a Youth Justice Centre rather than adult imprisonment, where a custodial sentence of no more than four years is sufficient to vindicate sentencing purposes.
