A jury may selectively accept parts of an unreliable witness's evidence while rejecting other parts, including where the rejected parts are inconsistent with the prosecution case. An inadvertent playing of a short inadmissible passage to the jury will not amount to a substantial miscarriage of justice where the admissible evidence in the same conversation was more potent than the excluded material and the overall prosecution case was compelling.
