Advanced age, multiple cancer diagnoses, COVID-19 vulnerability, and symptoms of major depressive disorder do not necessarily provide significant mitigation for grave historical sexual offences where the offender's health can be adequately managed in custody. A submission for a wholly suspended sentence for offending of this gravity was characterised as entirely unrealistic.
