Where an offender's assistance to law enforcement authorities concerns an unrelated offence of which the offender was the victim, and the connection to the offences being sentenced is merely temporal and spatial (being in custody on remand), the court may exercise its discretion under s 23 CSPA to decline to allow any discount, particularly where the offender acted solely in self-interest and the offending is extremely serious.
