Where an accused deliberately targets the neck area of a victim with a concealed knife using substantial force, a jury is entitled to infer an intention to kill notwithstanding that only a single blow was struck and the knife deflected off bone, as the striking of bone may be treated as a serendipitous consequence rather than evidence of lesser intent.
