The Court sentenced the offender to 2 years and 3 months imprisonment for obtaining property by deception ($41,523 total, with a scheduled offence taken into account), reduced from a starting point of 3 years by 25% for an early guilty plea. The sentence was suspended after 8 months actual custody on a good behaviour order with conditions including supervision and weekly reparation payments of $1,000 to each victim. The Court confirmed that an offender's offer to make reparation does not mitigate sentence but may support the making of a compensation order as a condition of a good behaviour order, and that ineligibility for an ICO due to interstate residence does not preclude a partly suspended sentence where rehabilitation is best supported by return to family.
