The County Court sentenced a former financial adviser to five years and six months' imprisonment with a three-and-a-half-year non-parole period for dishonest conduct in relation to financial services, carrying on a financial services business without a licence, and recklessly dealing with approximately $1.97 million in proceeds of crime. The Court emphasised that general deterrence is preeminent in white-collar financial services offending, that good character carries reduced mitigatory weight where it facilitated the offending, and that the guilty plea warranted a discount from a notional post-trial sentence of six years and nine months with a four-year-four-month non-parole period.
