Gas Safety Act 2000

An inspector may enter and remain on premises to conduct a test or inspection required in order to find out whether gasfitting work or gas appliance work has been done in accordance with part 2 (Work safety and standards).

An inspector may enter and remain on the premises under subsection (1)—

at any reasonable time; and

with the people, equipment or material that the inspector reasonably needs to conduct the test or inspection.

However, the inspector may not, under this section—

enter or remain on premises if, on request by the occupier, the inspector does not produce the inspector’s identity card; or

without the consent of the occupier, enter or remain on any part of the premises used for residential purposes.

The power to enter premises under this section is additional to the powers under section 42 (General power to enter premises).
