82 Notice of death if individual dies following administration of an approved substance

(1)

This section applies if a health practitioner—

(a)

is required to give the registrar-general written notice of the death and cause of death of an individual under the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1997, section 35; and

(b)

knows or believes on reasonable grounds that the individual died after an approved substance was administered by or to the individual under this Act.

(2)

In the notice, the health practitioner—

(a)

must state that the individual’s cause of death was the condition mentioned in section 11 (1) (b); and

(b)

must not include any reference to voluntary assisted dying as the cause of death.

(3)

The health practitioner must also give the registrar-general written notice that the individual’s manner of death was the administration of an approved substance by or to the individual under this Act.
