SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Bombardier (Boeing Canada/de Havilland) DHC-8 Series Aeroplanes
AD/DHC-8/83 Mode S Transponder Wiring 12/2001
Applicability: DHC-8 series 100, 200 and 300 aeroplanes, serial numbers 003 through 559. Requirement: Unless already accomplished, install ModSum 8Q100769 and ModSum 8Q101094.
Bombardier Service Bulletin (SB) 8-34-200 dated 26 June 2001 provides approved instructions for installing ModSum 8Q100769.
Bombardier SB 8-30-36 dated 13 July 2000 provides approved instructions for installing ModSum 8Q101094.
Transport Canada AD CF-2001-38 refers.
Compliance: Within 6 months after the effective date of this Directive.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 29 November 2001.
Background: An investigation of two reports identified wire bundle chafing on the No 2 propeller de-ice timer. The chafing could lead to incorrect altitude information transmitted by the Mode S transponder and simultaneous loss of the Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System. This Directive introduces measures designed to prevent the chafing occurring.
Eugene Paul Holzapfel
Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority 19 October 2001
The above AD is notified in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette on 7 November 2001.
