17 Times of meetings

(1)

Subject to subsection (3), the Assembly shall meet:

(a)

within 7 days after the result of a general election is declared; and

(b)

within 7 days after a written request for a meeting, signed by such number of members as is fixed by enactment, is delivered to the Presiding Officer.

(2)

The Presiding Officer shall, by notice published in the Territory Gazette, convene a meeting when it is necessary to do so to comply with subsection (1).

(3)

If the Presiding Officer is required by subsection (2) to convene a meeting within a particular period and:

(a)

the office of Presiding Officer is vacant, whether or not a person has been previously elected to the office; or

(b)

the Presiding Officer is unable, or refuses or fails, to convene a meeting within that period;

the Commonwealth Minister shall, by notice published in the Commonwealth Gazette, convene the meeting within that period or, if that is not practicable, within 7 days after that period.
