12 Appointment
The Board members are to be appointed by the Minister by written instrument.
Board members may be reappointed: see section 33AA of the Acts Interpretation Act 1901.
A Board member holds office on a part‑time basis.
A person is not eligible for appointment as the Chair unless the Minister is satisfied that the person has:
substantial experience or expertise; and
professional credibility and significant standing;
in one or more fields of research or in the management of research.
In appointing Board members, the Minister must:
ensure that a majority of the Board members are persons whom the Minister is satisfied have substantial experience or expertise in one or more fields of research or in the management of research; and
ensure that one of the Board members is an Indigenous person; and
ensure that one of the Board members is a person whom the Minister is satisfied will represent regional, rural and remote Australia; and
ensure that the membership of the Board reflects the diversity of the general community, to the extent that is reasonably practicable.
