34 Appointment of the CEO
The CEO is to be appointed by the Board by written instrument for the period specified in the instrument. That period must not exceed 5 years.
A person is not eligible for appointment as the CEO unless the Board is satisfied that the person has:
substantial experience or expertise; and
professional credibility and significant standing;
in one or more fields of research or in the management of research.
The Board must:
give the Minister details of at least 2 possible candidates for appointment as CEO; and
give the Minister a reasonable opportunity to make representations to the Board about those candidates.
A person must not be appointed as the CEO unless the Board is satisfied that the selection of the person for the appointment is the result of a process that:
was merit‑based; and
included public advertising of the position.
