Biosecurity Act 2015

This section sets out requirements that must be complied with if:

either of the following events occurs:

an officer requires an individual to remain at a place under section 68;

an officer includes an isolation measure in a human biosecurity control order, requiring an individual to remain isolated; and

the individual is not an Australian citizen.

As soon as practicable after the event referred to in paragraph (1)(a) occurs, the officer must do the following:

inform the individual that he or she may request that the consular office of the following country be notified that the event has occurred:

the country of which he or she is a citizen;

the country to which he or she claims a special connection;

if the individual so requests—notify that consular office;

inform the individual that he or she may communicate, or attempt to communicate, with that consular office;

give the individual reasonable facilities to do so;

forward any written communication from the individual to that consular office;

allow the individual a reasonable time to communicate, or attempt to communicate, with that consular office.
