Commercial pilot (balloon) licence—rating required
5.142 Commercial pilot (balloon) licence—rating required
A commercial pilot (balloon) licence does not authorise the holder of the licence, in the course of flying a balloon, to carry out any activity for which a balloon flight crew rating is required:
as pilot in command, or co‑pilot—unless the holder also holds a balloon flight crew rating that authorises him or her to carry out the activity in that capacity in the balloon; or
in dual flying—unless the holder is receiving training in carrying out the activity from a person approved by CASA under regulation 5.20 to give balloon flying training in relation to the rating.
A commercial pilot (balloon) licence authorises the holder of the licence to fly a tethered balloon at night under the VFR without holding a balloon grade of night VFR rating.
