147 Appointment of members of the Advisory Council
The members of the Advisory Council are to be appointed by the Minister, by written instrument, on a part‑time basis.
Consultation
The Minister must consult the host jurisdictions about the appointment of each member of the Advisory Council.
Principal member
The Minister must not appoint a person as the Principal Member unless the person is a Board member.
Persons ineligible for appointment
A person is not eligible for appointment as a member of the Advisory Council if the person is a member (however described) of:
the Parliament of the Commonwealth or a State; or
the legislature of a Territory; or
a local government authority.
Membership requirements
In appointing the members of the Advisory Council, the Minister must:
have regard to the desirability of the membership of the Advisory Council reflecting the diversity of people with disability; and
ensure that all members are persons with skills, experience or knowledge that will help the Advisory Council perform its function; and
ensure that:
a majority of the members are people with disability; and
at least 2 of the members are carers of people with disability; and
at least one of the members is a person who has skills, experience or knowledge in relation to disability in rural or regional areas; and
at least one of the members is a person who has skills, experience or knowledge in the supply of equipment, or the provision of services, to people with disability.
A particular member may meet one or more of the conditions in subparagraphs (5)(c)(ii), (iii) and (iv).
