108 Function of the Tribunal
Applications, inquiries and determinations
The Tribunal has the functions in relation to applications, inquiries and determinations given to it by Part 3 and Division 5.
Mediation for Federal Court proceedings
The Tribunal has the functions in relation to Federal Court proceedings given to the Tribunal by Division 4 of Part 4 and Division 4AA of this Part.
Reconsideration of claims
The Tribunal has the functions in relation to applications for the reconsideration of claims made to the Tribunal under section 190E that are given to it under that section.
Assistance and mediation generally
The Tribunal has the functions of:
providing assistance, mediating or conducting a review in accordance with any provision of this Act; and
entering into agreements in relation to assistance as mentioned in subsections 60AAA(3) and 203BK(3).
Research
The Tribunal may carry out research for the purpose of performing its functions.
Matters for research
Without limiting subsection (2), the Tribunal may carry out research under that subsection into:
the history of interests in relation to land or waters in Australia; or
anthropology; or
linguistics.
