178 Operating a vessel in contravention of the regulations—master
(1)
The master of a vessel must not operate the vessel, or cause or permit another person to operate the vessel, if the operation of the vessel contravenes regulations made for the purposes of section 176.
Fault‑based offence
(2)
A person commits an offence if the person contravenes subsection (1).
Penalty: Imprisonment for 10 years or 600 penalty units, or both.
Civil penalty
(3)
A person is liable to a civil penalty if the person contravenes subsection (1).
Civil penalty: 6,000 penalty units.
