Navigation Act 2012

Subject to subsections (2) and (3), this Part applies:

to all vessels; and

whenever judicial or arbitral proceedings relating to the provision of salvage operations are brought in Australia.

This Part does not apply to fixed or floating platforms or to mobile offshore drilling units when such platforms or units are on location engaged in the exploration, exploitation or production of mineral resources of the seabed or its subsoil.

This Part does not apply to any salvage operation:

that takes place in inland waters and that involves vessels all of which are of inland navigation; or

that takes place in inland waters and does not involve a vessel; or

to the extent that it involves property:

that is maritime cultural property of prehistoric, archaeological or historic interest; and

that is situated on the seabed.

This Part does not derogate from or interfere with the powers of an officer of Customs conferred by any Act.
