Adoption Act 2000

On the making of an adoption order—

the existing parental responsibility for the adopted child (including the Minister’s parental responsibility under the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998) ceases to have effect, and

any previous adoption of the child (whether effected under the law of New South Wales or otherwise) ceases to have effect.

This section does not apply in relation to an agreement or instrument (not being a disposition of property) made or executed before 7 February 1967.

7 February 1967 was the date of commencement of the Adoption of Children Act 1965.
