Workers Compensation Act 1987

A Joint Select Committee of the Parliament must be established to—

consider the report of the expert panel, and

allow impacted members of the community and representatives of stakeholders of the workers compensation scheme to present evidence, and

make recommendations to the Treasurer and Ministers about the workers compensation scheme, including—

the impact and benefits of the scheme, and

improvements to the scheme, and

ways of eliminating medical, legal and other forms of fraud impacting the scheme.

The Joint Select Committee must consist of—

4 members of the Legislative Assembly, including the following—

at least 1 Opposition member,

at least 1 independent member, and

3 members of the Legislative Council consisting of—

1 Government member, and

1 Opposition member, and

1 crossbench member.

The Chairperson of the Joint Select Committee must be the member of the Committee who is the crossbench member of the Legislative Council.

The Joint Select Committee’s report on the outcome of the review must be tabled in each House of Parliament no later than 3 years after the date of assent to the amendment Act.
