199 Applicant for local registration – show cause event
This section applies if:
a person is applying for registration as a foreign lawyer under this Act; and
a show cause event in relation to the person happened, whether before or after the commencement of this section, after the person first became an overseas-registered foreign lawyer.
As part of the application, the person must give the Law Society a written statement, in accordance with the regulations:
about the show cause event; and
explaining why, despite the show cause event, the applicant considers himself or herself to be a fit and proper person to be a locally-registered foreign lawyer.
However, the person need not provide a statement under subsection (2) if the person has previously provided to the
Society a statement under this section, or a notice and statement under section 200, explaining why, despite the show cause event, the person considers himself or herself to be a fit and proper person to be a locally-registered foreign lawyer.
