The Governor in Council may appoint a person as a coroner (an appointed coroner) if the person has been a lawyer for at least 5 years.
An appointed coroner is entitled to the remuneration, allowances and employment conditions decided by the Governor in Council.
The office of an appointed coroner is not subject to—
an industrial instrument under the Industrial Relations Act 2016; or
a decision or rule of the industrial court or industrial commission.
An appointed coroner has the functions and powers of a coroner under this or another Act.
An appointed coroner may be appointed to investigate a particular death or for a particular period, or otherwise.
