The owner of a cathodic protection system must ensure that the system complies with the requirements of this section for a cathodic protection system.Maximum penalty—40 penalty units.
The maximum open circuit voltage of a cathodic protection system may be more than 50V only if safety requirements have been met to the regulator’s satisfaction.
If an anode for a cathodic protection system is immersed in water or in a marine environment, the potential difference between any 2 accessible points spaced 1m apart in the water or marine environment must not be more than 3V when the system is energised.
In a surface area of 1,000m2 measured radially about an electrode or the centre of a group of electrodes discharging current to ground as part of a cathodic protection system on land or in non-saline water, the total current of 1 polarity must not be more than 100A.
In an area of surface water of 2,000m2 bounded by a 100m length of the mean low water level contour and a line displaced 20m in a direction away from land from the contour, the total current of 1 polarity discharged to water or substrata by all electrodes in the area for a cathodic protection system must not be more than 500A.
