Fire Services Act 1990

The functions of a rural fire brigade are—

to carry out fire fighting and fire prevention; and

to use fire for land management; and

to carry out other activities to help communities or other entities prepare for, respond to, and enhance resilience to, an event or a disaster; and

to carry out activities to raise the profile of RFSQ, promote bushfire safety or raise funds to support rural fire brigades in the performance of the brigades’ other functions; and

to provide services or assistance if required by any Act or the reasonable expectations of the community; and

to perform any other function given to the brigade by the commissioner.

The commissioner must notify a rural fire brigade of the area for which and the circumstances in which the brigade is in charge of fire fighting and fire prevention.

In this section—fire prevention includes taking measures in readiness for fire so as to reduce potential danger to persons, property or the environment.
