For section 12(1)(a), a person has significant limitations in adaptive behaviour if the person has significant limitations in 2 or more of the following skill areas—

communication;

self-care;

home living;

social skills;

use of community services;

self-direction;

health and safety;

functional academics, including, for example, reading, writing and arithmetic;

leisure;

work.

If a standardised measurement of adaptive behaviour is used to assess a person’s adaptive behaviour and it indicates a score at or below the second percentile of people of the same age and cultural group, the person must be taken to have significant limitations in adaptive behaviour.
