Fares and charges for taxis
84 Fares and charges for taxis
If a person soils a taxi, the driver of the taxi may charge a reasonable amount of not more than an amount equal to 1 penalty unit for cleaning the taxi.
An amount that may be charged under subsection (1) is in addition to the fare the driver of the taxi may charge.
If the driver of a taxi reasonably believes the driver will not be able to obtain the fare for a journey at the destination, the driver may require the hirer to pay the estimated fare, or an agreed amount for the journey, as a deposit before starting the journey.
The driver of a taxi, while providing a taxi service, must not drive the taxi to the destination stated by the hirer in a way that involves excessive charging.
Maximum penalty for subsection (4)—20 penalty units.
