31 Deputy chancellor
(1)
There is a deputy chancellor of the university.
(2)
The senate must elect a member as deputy chancellor whenever there is a vacancy in the office.
(3)
The deputy chancellor holds office for the term, not longer than 4 years, fixed by the senate.
(4)
The deputy chancellor is to act as chancellor—
(a)
during a vacancy in the office of chancellor; and
(b)
during all periods when the chancellor is absent from duty or, for another reason, can not perform the functions of the office.
