Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009

The assistance granted under section 38(1) to a primary victim of an act of violence may consist of 1 or more of the following components—

reasonable counselling expenses incurred, or reasonably likely to be incurred, by the victim as a direct result of the act of violence;

reasonable medical expenses incurred, or reasonably likely to be incurred, by the victim as a direct result of the act of violence;

reasonable incidental travel expenses incurred, or reasonably likely to be incurred, by the victim as a direct result of the act of violence;

reasonable report expenses incurred by the victim for the victim’s application for assistance (including expenses incurred for an examination under section 73);

loss of earnings of up to $20,000 suffered, or reasonably likely to be suffered, by the victim, as a direct result of the act of violence, during a period of up to 2 years after the act of violence;

expenses incurred by the victim for loss of or damage to clothing the victim was wearing when the act of violence happened;

if exceptional circumstances exist for the victim, other reasonable expenses incurred, or reasonably likely to be incurred, by the victim to significantly help the victim recover from the act of violence;Examples of other reasonable expenses—

• relocation expenses

• costs of securing the victim’s place of residence or business

special assistance in relation to the act of violence.
