Firearms Act 1996

An applicant for a licence must be – at least 18 years of age; and a natural person.

An application for a licence is to – be in an approved form; and contain proof of the applicant's identity in accordance with the requirements under the Financial Transactions Reports Act 1988 of the Commonwealth that apply in respect of the opening of a bank account; and contain proof of age; and contain an authorisation from the applicant to the Commissioner to release any information that the Commissioner considers necessary in relation to the applicant to a person holding an official position in an approved pistol shooting club or in an approved society, the members of which collect firearms, and to a person holding an official position in an approved pistol shooting club or in an approved society, the members of which collect firearms, to release any information that the person considers necessary in relation to the applicant to the Commissioner; and in the case of an application for a firearms dealer licence, contain the name and address of each person who is a close associate of the applicant and particulars of the nature of that close association; and contain any prescribed particulars; and be accompanied by the prescribed fee; and be lodged with the Commissioner.
