11 Practice by unregistered persons
A person shall not engage in the practice of veterinary surgery or render a veterinary service unless that person is a registered veterinary surgeon.
Subsection (1) does not apply to – a person who administers anaesthetic under the instruction of a registered veterinary surgeon who is in the presence of the person while the person administers the anaesthetic; a person who provides a veterinary service in an emergency, where a registered veterinary surgeon is not reasonably or readily available; a veterinary student who is acting under the instruction of a registered veterinary surgeon who is in the presence of the student while the student is so acting; or any other prescribed case.
A person who contravenes subsection (1) is guilty of an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a penalty not exceeding 50 penalty units.
