15 Entitlement to registration as veterinary surgeon
Subject to this section, a person is entitled to be registered under this Part as a veterinary surgeon if – he has attained the age of 18 years; he is qualified to be registered as a veterinary surgeon; and he satisfies the Board of his identity and that he is a fit and proper person to practise as a veterinary surgeon in this State.
For the purposes of subsection (1)(b), a person is qualified to be registered under this Part as a veterinary surgeon if – he has obtained a qualification approved by the Board under section 5A and, if required by the Board to do so, has passed such examinations as the Board may determine; or he is registered as a veterinary surgeon under a corresponding law.
For the purposes of this section, the Board may regard a person as not being a fit and proper person to practise as a veterinary surgeon in this State if it is satisfied that – an application by that person for registration, or for a licence to practise, as a veterinary surgeon has, in accordance with a corresponding law, been refused; the registration of that person under a corresponding law is suspended or has been cancelled or otherwise terminated in accordance with that law; the person has been convicted in this State or elsewhere of – any crime, or offence that if it had been committed in this State would have been a crime; an offence under a law prohibiting or regulating the possession, sale, use, supply, or other dealing in, any poison, drug, or similar substance; or an offence under this Act, or a corresponding law, which, in the opinion of the Board, indicates the person is not a fit and proper person to practise as a veterinary surgeon; or the person has become unable to perform competently the duties of a veterinary surgeon.
