1 Purposes

The purposes of this Act are—

(a)

to provide for the making of orders that—

(i)

designate areas of the State for the purpose of preserving the identity of GM crops or non-GM crops for marketing purposes; and

(ii)

prohibit or restrict the cultivation of GM crops, or other dealings with GM crops or GM crop related material; and

(b)

to provide an offence for contravening those orders and certain other offences; and

(c)

to allow authorised officers—

(i)

to monitor compliance with the Act; and

(ii)

to apply to the Magistrates' Court for the forfeiture and destruction of GM crops or GM crop related material if an order has been contravened; and

(d)

to deal with related matters.
