1 Purposes
S. 1(1) substituted by Nos 87/2005 s. 3, 83/2012 s. 34(2).
The main purposes of this Act are—
to facilitate, for law enforcement or security purposes, investigations, intelligence gathering and other related activities, including activities extending beyond Victoria; and
S. 1(1)(b) amended by No. 34/2016 s. 26.
to enable the safe and effective exercise of functions in administering the Victorian witness protection program and alternative protection arrangements under the Witness Protection Act 1991.

The main ways in which those purposes are to be achieved under this Act include—
providing for the lawful acquisition and use of assumed identities; and
facilitating mutual recognition of things done in relation to assumed identities under corresponding laws.
