144 Number plates to be kept in safe custody
(1)
The sheriff or the police officer must keep any number plates removed from a motor vehicle under section 140 in safe custody.
(2)
Despite anything to the contrary in the Road Safety Act 1986, it is not an offence against that Act to leave a vehicle whose registration has been suspended under section 143 standing on a highway.
