The objective of these Regulations is to prescribe matters that are authorised or required to be prescribed for carrying out or giving effect to the Human Tissue Act 1982.

These Regulations are made under section 46 of the Human Tissue Act 1982.
These Regulations come into operation on 21 December 2025.
The Human Tissue Regulations 2015[1] are revoked.
In these Regulations—
the Act means the Human Tissue Act 1982.
For the purposes of section 25(b) of the Act, the following classes of persons are prescribed—
in relation to the removal of ocular tissue, a person—
who is employed by, or performs work for, the Centre for Eye Research Australia Limited (ACN 076 481 984) as an eye donor coordinator as part of the Lions Eye Donation Service; and
whose duties include the removal of ocular tissue from the bodies of deceased persons;
in relation to the removal of tissue of any kind, a person—
who is employed by, or performs work for, the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine or a hospital as a forensic technician (including a forensic technical officer), a mortuary technician or a scientist; and
whose duties include the removal of tissue of any kind from the bodies of deceased persons.
For the purposes of Part VII of the Act, the following institutions are prescribed—
La Trobe University;
Monash University;
Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology;
University of Melbourne.
For the purposes of section 39A(1) of the Act, the following tissue banks are prescribed—
Austin Health Tissue Bank;
Barwon Health Bone Bank;
Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria;
kConFab (Kathleen Cuningham Foundation Consortium for Research into Familial Breast Cancer) Tissue Bank;
Lions Eye Donation Service;
Melbourne Health Tissue Bank;
Monash Health Tissue Bank;
Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Tissue Bank;
Victorian Brain Bank.
