49 Probationary driver licence
(1)
The probationary period of a driver licence comprises—
(a)
the period, if any, for which the licence is granted as a P1 probationary licence, subject to extension under regulation 53 (the P1 probationary period); and
(b)
the period for which the licence is granted as a P2 probationary licence, subject to extension under regulation 53 (the P2 probationary period).

(2)
At the expiry of the probationary period, the Secretary must grant a full driver licence to the holder of the probationary licence.
