Summary Offences Regulations 2022

The objective of these Regulations is to prescribe days of religious significance for the purposes of the offence of engaging in sex work at or near certain places in the Summary Offences Act 1966.

These Regulations are made under section 61A of the Summary Offences Act 1966.

These Regulations come into operation on 10 May 2022.

In these Regulations—

the Act means the Summary Offences Act 1966.

For the purposes of section 38B(3)(b) and (4)(b) of the Act, the following days are prescribed days in respect of a place of worship that is a church—

Good Friday;

the Saturday before Easter Sunday;

Easter Sunday;

24 December (Christmas Eve);

25 December (Christmas Day).

For the purposes of section 38B(3)(b) and (4)(b) of the Act, a day that occurs during one of the following periods is a prescribed day in respect of a place of worship that is a mosque—

Ramadan;

Eid ul-Fitr.

For the purposes of section 38B(3)(b) and (4)(b) of the Act, a day that occurs during one of the following periods is a prescribed day in respect of a place of worship that is a synagogue—

Yom Kippur;

Hanukkah.
