Surety becoming unsuitable
15 Surety becoming unsuitable
The prosecutor or a police officer may have the accused brought before the court and apply to have bail cancelled or changed if the prosecutor or police officer reasonably believes (among other things) that a surety is no longer suitable or security given by a surety is no longer sufficient.
16. Offence to compensate surety
It is an offence for a person to compensate, or agree to compensate, a surety or proposed surety for any liability which the surety or proposed surety incurs, or may incur, under the Bail Act 1982. The surety or proposed surety and any person who is a party to the agreement also commits an offence. The penalty is a fine of up to $1 000 or imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both.
