36 Abolition of torts of maintenance and champerty
(1)
The torts of maintenance and champerty are abolished.
(2)
This section does not affect any of the following —
(a)
a cause of action in tort for maintenance or champerty that accrued before the day on which this section comes into operation;
(b)
a rule of law as to the cases in which a contract is to be treated as contrary to public policy or as otherwise illegal.
